William F. Stone, Jr

Watercolors

His bold, realistically stylized watercolors are a unique individual statement and strongly evoke the essence of the area where they are painted. They bring a fresh, colorful approach - whether it be Friday Harbor in California or quaint cottages in the British Isles. His subject matter often includes the coastal and gold country of California, New England fishing and lobster ports, landscapes and fishing villages of England, Scotland, Wales, Portugal and Japan. He has designed posters for the Adobe Tour sponsored by the Monterey History and Art Association, Carmel's 75th Birthday Poster and numerous other posters - one of which appeared on the front cover of the "MONTEREY BAY" magazine. He continues to do an annual poster for the City of Carmel, Ca.

William F. Stone, Jr. is a third generation Californian born in Walnut Creek. He was educated at U.C. Berkeley and San Jose State University. Stone is also a graduate of the School of Medical Illustration in Boston, Mass.

After several years spent as an illustrator in San Francisco and Stanford, he obtained his secondary teaching credential in art and spent the next twenty five years as a high school art instructor. He retired in 1985 and was determined to pursue his passion for painting . He now spends most of his time travelling and painting and his work has become exceedingly popular. He occasionally gives slide lectures of these travels to distant places to Art and Community Groups and is often asked to jury well known Art Shows.
